Hoyt Lakes is a city located in St. Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,996 at the 2010 census.
Hoyt Lakes is home to a large mining operation, with the majority of residents employed at the nearby taconite mine. The city has numerous outdoor recreational options, including a 97-acre park and a lake that offers great fishing opportunities. The Superior National Forest surrounds the area and features miles of hiking and biking trails.
One of the unique features of Hoyt Lakes is the abandoned open-pit mine. The site, known as the Davidson Pit, stretches over two miles long, one-and-a-half miles wide, and 400 feet deep. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and visitors can take a guided tour of the site.
The city also hosts several community events throughout the year, including the Hoyt Lakes Water Carnival and the Hoyt Lakes Winter Festival.
